Can I put programs on a network storage system? - network storage system

Can I have a unit of network storage and make it as a small server to run an application to act in order to be used by multiple computers in a network of offices?

If you want to buy a hard drive or network rack, make sure that Windows shares or Samba (SMB) "ability. This allows you to map the network drive to a local drive letter Z as in Windows. You can then store the bits, but the software is run locally on your computer. NAS storage is similar to the hard drive is not really a server.
